Del. launches anti-littering campaign to clean up the First State
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Delaware has a new anti-litter campaign and it’s got a catchy slogan, ‘Keep DE Litter Free.’ The goal is right in the name itself, a campaign that’s hoping to spark some change in people — to get them to throw away their trash in trashcans not on beaches or the side of the road.
The hope is to educate people on what they can do to help keep the state clean, but this campaign isn’t just a new slogan, the state is actually backing it with action and funds.
“We have additional dollars in our budget starting in July to have more contractual cleanup throughout our state. I have my guys and girls out there picking up trash every day. Last year alone we picked up over 35,000 bags of trash so we are going to be doing additional work there,” explains DelDOT Sec. Jennifer Cohan.
They’re also going to be implementing a new program they first piloted in Wilmington called ‘Work A day, Earn A Pay’ statewide where people get a day job through trash cleanup.
