Colonel baseball hangs on to beat St. Michaels, stay undefeated
FEDERALSBURG, Md.- In a matchup of the two winningest Bayside baseball programs in history, and lone remaining undefeated teams in conference play this year, Colonel Richardson was able to hang on to beat North rival St. Michaels, 10-9.
In a rematch of the 2018 1A East title game, Colonel jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second inning behind multi-RBI hits from Remy Mangum, Jackie Zebron and Ty Scott, who crushed a triple.
St. Mikes wouldn’t be out of it long, putting up five runs in the fourth inning courtesy of Nick Newnam, Christian Glessner and Ryan Smith to tie the game at 7-7.
In the fifth, the Colonels would put up three more runs to take the 10-7 lead, on RBI singles from Tyler Stanley and Zebron.
That lead would hold until the 7th, when St. Michaels would stage their rally. With two outs and the bases loaded, an infield single and an infield bunt would bring two runners across the plate to make it 10-9, but that’s as close as they would get.
The loss is the first of the year in the Bayside for the Saints who fall to 5-2 overall, while Colonel stays undefeated at 6-0.
