City announces new GreenFest

SALISBURY, Md. –  The city of Salisbury is continuing to go green with a new event this May announced Wednesday. The GreenFest will be held at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.

The idea came from Salisbury residents who wanted to make a difference and celebrate the environment.

Different speakers will be on hand to discuss the importance of community gardens, rain gardens, compost and how to build a rain barrel.

The focus of the event will be on conservation and water quality. The city hopes this will also highlight the new Amphitheater and drive more people to the area.

“The really big goal for this event is to celebrate the environment and bring people together who are interested in learning how to make their homes more green. And whether they’re an avid gardener, or they’ve never planted a plant in their life, we want this event to have something for everyone,” said sustainability coordinator Alyssa Massey.

Local resources like Lower Shore Land Trust, Wicomico Environmental Trust, and Nanticoke Watershed Alliance will also be in attendance. The event takes place May 11 from 9 AM to 1 PM.
