Cambridge market goes ‘green’ to help environment
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – As we know, Maryland will soon be getting rid of all styrofoam food containers and cups to help better the environment. But one market in Cambridge is going the extra mile. Earlier this week the Simmons Center Market announced that they’re taking the next step and switching their current foam meat trays to a compostable plant based tray. They’re also changing their cups and lids to compostable ones. On top of that they’ll be giving their customers a choice to choose between having their items put in either a paper or bio-degradable plastic bag. And while officials tell say the switch may be a little more costly, it’s worth it in the end.
“It is much more costly it’s no doubt about it but sometimes it’s not about how cheaply you can get off it’s about resources for not necessarily for me but for my grandchildren and great grandchildren,” said market owner Ricky Travers.
Travers adds that in the future the market hopes to have their own custom reusable bags that will be available for purchase in the store.
