Bennett boys lacrosse rides second half rally to outlast Bayside foe Kent Island

STEVENSVILLE, Md.- In a rematch of the 2018 Bayside Championship game, Bennett boys lacrosse defeated Kent Island (4-2) 12-10 in an instant classic moving to 5-1 on the year.

As the rain began to slow the Buccaneers were putting the first goal on the board. Dawson Stitcher sent a strike past the keeper just 20 seconds into the game. Three minutes later Luke Nestor was scoring the equalizer for Bennett. Ricky Tubman would do his best to keep the Bucs in this one as he netted two one his own first quarter goals. Nestor had a hat trick in the first quarter as the first quarter ended in a 4 goal tie.

The two teams would go blow for blow but KI would end the quarter on a 2-0 run to take a one goal 6-5 lead into the break. Luke Nestor led all scorers with three first half goals, Alex Sewell brought up the Clipper scoring with two. Tubman led the charge for the Bucs with two first half goals. Nick Haney, Dawson Stitcher, Harrison Smith, and Matt Bastain each had one for Kent Island.

Second half and the Clips came out firing, going on a 3-0 run retaking the lead 8-6 to end the third quarter. That run started off by a sick behind the back goal by Cole Nestor. The Buccaneers would climb back bringing the game to just one behind a second goal from Stitcher and Bastain. The last second come back hopes would fall just short as they fall to Bennett for just their second loss of the season.

The Clippers return to action tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Leonardtown Maryland to take on St. Mary’s Ryken. Kent Island will look to get back in the win column Wednesday the 24th when they host North Caroline.
