Accomack wastewater infrastructure project deemed feasible

MELFA, Va. –  The region has had difficulty with its wastewater infrastructure, and Accomack County is moving forward with plans to address the issues.

The Eastern Shore Main Force Sewer Transmission Line Committee has been working on a study of the county’s wastewater infrastructure for a year and have deemed it feasible to renovate the system.

This new system would connect Nassawadox to Onancock and Accomac to Onancock.

We’re told the current system is aging and in need of upgrades or complete rebuilds, and is hindering the growth of business in the county.

“There are existing businesses that are inside the town limits that are limited by the capacity that they can work, they have the business to grow, but they don’t have the capacity for the water and the sewer,” said eastern shore Virginia Chamber of Commerce executive director Robie Marsh.

The committee will be coming out with more detailed plans this summer, and will be holding town hall meetings, along with public hearings and comments on the project.
