Education grant creates programs for Sussex Co. students
LEWES, Del. – In Delaware, many school districts are now able to offer summer and after school programs thanks to grants from the Every Student Succeeds Act.
Milton Elementary is just one school that’s getting $320,000 to create a summer and after school program for students in grades 1 to 5.
Free programs that will keep students minds sharp and their bellies full during the summer and homework help after school.
“A lot of the children that wouldn’t have these experiences and more of the low income is what is more geared to, so that we can get them to have the after school care that they need and if their homework is done at the end of the day,” explains Kacie Goins, a Milton Elementary teacher and program administrator.
Milton Elementary teamed up with the Milton Public Library and Theater to add even more activities for kids to do and they’re currently taking applications right now.
The Seaford School District also received $400,000 to start similar programs with the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware.
