Word of Life Church opens clinic for immigrants in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – “We have seen other immigrants come into this area and as a pastor not only am I here to help them spiritually I try to help them also in the immigration issues,” said Reverend Roosevelt Toussaint.

According to Reverend Roosevelt Toussaint, a new immigration clinic at Word of Life Church will help provide free legal services that will help immigrants on the shore become more established in the community.

“Over the last past years we have seen a tremendous growth of immigrants come into our shore so we feel like it is a necessity to have a clinic such as this,” said Toussaint.

“Knowing the struggle that I went through and knowing the struggle that family and friends are going through we decided it was proper for us to have a clinic because we don’t have much in this area,” said Kenson Raymond, a member at the Word of Life Church.

Salisbury Mayor Jake Day agrees that a clinic like this is long overdue.

“We continue to see growth in the third largest demographic group in Hispanic community in Salisbury in addition to that the Haitian and Creole population from Caribbean islands has continued to grow,” said City of Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.

Kenson Raymond a member of the church will help lead the new immigration clinic. Raymond said it took four years of volunteering and training to finally open this much needed clinic. Raymond added he hopes to eventually expand the clinic into a new building in the future.

“As an immigrant myself I had to go through a lot to get the green card, the green card is the permanent residence we immigrants have to receive,” said Raymond.

The immigration clinic will be officially opened Monday, March 4.
