Police arrest man accused of assaulting girlfriend, endangering two troopers
UPDATE: Delaware State Police recently arrested 22-year-old Steven L. McCormick Jr. who is accused of assaulting his girlfriend as well as endangering responding troopers.
According to reports, troopers spotted the Salisbury man on Friday leaving a residence in a pickup truck in the 14000 block of Shiloh Church Road, Laurel.
During a traffic stop, McCormick reportedly laid down in the back seat of the pickup truck, and that is when he was taken into custody without incident. Police say they found in his possession 124 bags of heroin, one Ecstasy pill and over $200 in suspected drug proceeds.
McCormick was taken to Troop 5 where he was charged with the initial warrants and new charges including the following:
Theft of Motor Vehicle
Malicious Interference with Emergency Communication
Offensive Touching
Two counts of Criminal Mischief
Two counts of Reckless Endangering
Resisting Arrest
Vehicular Assault
Driving Without a License
Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
Possession of a Counterfeit Substance without a Prescription
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
McCormick was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $43,600 cash only bond.

DELAWARE – Delaware State Police are asking for the public’s help in their search for a Salisbury man who is accused of assaulting his girlfriend as well as endangering responding troopers.
Police say the domestic incident happened Thursday on Boyd Drive, Magnolia.
The 22-year-old suspect Steven McCormick Jr. reportedly punched his girlfriend several times and prevented her from contacting 911 by damaging her phone. Police say McCormick Jr. then fled the scene in a stolen car.
Police say on the same day the stolen car was spotted at the Walgreens located at 9202 Commercial Drive in Bridgeville. A trooper reportedly arrived on scene and as he attempted to get out of his patrol car McCormick Jr. drove at the trooper and slammed the passenger side compartment.
The trooper eventually got out of the patrol car and started to give commands. However, the suspect continued to ram the rear of the stolen car into the side of the patrol car in an attempt to prevent the trooper from capturing him.
Another trooper reportedly arrived on scene and got out of his patrol car. McCormick Jr. then drove in the direction of the second trooper who was forced to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit.
The 22-year-old later fled the scene and was seen traveling on Sussex Highway in the area of Bridgeville Road.
A computer check revealed his Maryland driver’s license was suspended. Warrants are on file charging McCormick Jr. with the following:
Theft of Motor Vehicle
Malicious Interference with Emergency Communication
Offensive Touching
Two counts of Criminal Mischief
Two counts of Reckless Endangering
Resisting Arrest
Vehicular Assault
Drive Without a License
