Remembering Salisbury University basketball player Jack Ferguson
SALISBURY, Md. – Loved in his community, cherished by his team and celebrated by his University.
Jack Ferguson was by all accounts everything you could ever hope for in a leader and a college athlete.
Unfortunately, his time on this earth has come to a close.
Surrounded by family, Ferguson a senior on the Salisbury University Men’s basketball team passed away on Sunday night.
The Canadian born guard was forced to sit out his final season after he was diagnosed with Histiocystic Sarcoma a rare form of cancer.
During his three seasons with the Gulls, number 10 helped the Gulls to two NCAA tournament appearances and gained the love and respect of his teammates who would start a fundraiser for him once his diagnosis was made public.
Head Coach Brian McDermott says Ferguson was a star both on and off the court.
McDermott said, “Jack was a special athlete here at Salisbury University and he is going to be remembered on many different levels. He was the academic student, the perfect athlete, and the perfect teammate. He was very unselfish.”
The university has yet to release any information regarding a service or commemoration for Ferguson.
Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with Ferguson’s family as well as his teammates during this difficult time.
Jack you will be missed.
