Queen Anne’s makes it back to back regional titles

CENTREVILLE, MD- Prior to last season, the Queen Anne’s girls basketball program had no history in the MPSSAA winter record book. Fast forward to two years and the Lady Lions are the latest team in the state to capture back to back regional

championships after defeating Fallston 54-39 in the 2A East regional title game on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the game, behind five quick points from McKenzy Hudock.  Fallston would make a run of their own, outscoring the Lions 15-5 from late in the first thru the middle of the second quarter. The Cougars would cut the lead to as little as 2, but trail 24-20 at the half.

In the second half the Lions would again make a run, Jurnee Wilson (13 points) would knock down back to back three pointers, and convert a lay-up before forcing a Fallston timeout. The 8-0 run pushed Queen Anne’s lead up to as many as 10, sending the home team into the fourth with a 39-34 lead.

In the fourth, Queen Anne’s closed the game out outscoring Fallston 15-5, with six Lions players registering points in the final eight minutes.

Coach Mike Kern and the Lady Lions clinch their 2nd consecutive trip to SECU Arena. They will take on Middletown on Friday, March 15th at 5pm on the campus of Towson University.
