Poker tournament held to help Wiersberg Warriors
SALISBURY, Md. – The deck was shuffled and chips were thrown into the middle of the table at the Elk’s Lodge in Salisbury Saturday, all to help a local police officer in need.
This poker tournament was held to raise money for Spencer Wiersberg, a Fruitland Police Officer, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
We’re told Spencer has his ups and downs, he went through his first chemo session last week and is scheduled for another wave of chemo this week.
That’s where today’s poker tournament comes into play. The goal is to help lift Spencer up and help him out during this hard time.
“I think it’s a special thing. I’ve known him since he was a little kid, I know his dad, his dad’s a member here. It’s just nice to help somebody out,” said tournament director John Schofield.
