Newnam’s big day gives St. Mike’s the edge over Snow Hill

SNOW HILL, Md.- Behind a strong day on the mound from senior Nick Newnam, the Saint Michael’s Saints picked up their third win of the season, 6-1, against Snow Hill. The loss drops the Eagles to 2-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first inning by both teams, the Saints would open up the scoring in the second with a sac fly from Josh Sherwood sending Christian Glessner home from second. Saint Michael’s would go on a 5-0 run to take the 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning giving Snow Hill one last chance to tie it up. During that run, senior pitcher Nick Newnam would get hot on the mound. The Harford college commit would strike out eight batters only letting up two hits and zero runs.

In the seventh, the Eagles would show some life as Clayton Gaskill sends a grounder up the middle to score Cole Gurskey from third to give Snow Hill a little spark with no outs on the board. Once again, Newnam would show up for the Saints striking out two straight batters to get the win. Newnam pitched a complete game for Saint Michael’s.

The Saints will look to make it four wins in a row when they host Mardela Saturday the 30th. The Eagles will look to get back in the win column when they welcome Washington into town Monday, April 1st.
