National Kidney Month: Home Therapy Dialysis
DELMARVA– Every year, more and more people are diagnosed with kidney disease. Since it’s National Kidney Month, 47 ABC decided to learn more about treatment options for those battling kidney failure.
47 ABC’s Erica Murphy spoke to Timah Ricketts RN, BSN, to learn more about the treatment, when it is necessary, and how to make it the long and exhausting experience more comfortable.
Ricketts says that kidney function that ranges from 85-90% requires kidney dialysis. These treatments are usually 3 times a week and are 4 hours long.
Traditionally, dialysis is done within a medical facility but now more people are opting to undergo treatments from the comfort of their home.
Fresenius Kidney Care, which has branches in Salisbury, Princess Anne and southern Delaware, offers training programs to teach patients of all ages how to self-administer their dialysis treatments.
