Millsboro officials move forward with downtown revitalization plans
MILLSBORO, Del. – Millsboro is one step closer to revitalizing their downtown area. Recently, the town’s council approved the start of the bidding process for three critical projects that officials are proposing. Some of the ideas approved include the main street paver project and the west state street sidewalk project.
Town officials say these are critical to improving curb appeal downtown. They tell 47 ABC that completing these projects will bring added investments, businesses, and restaurants to the area.
“Just being able to revitalize that whole area I think it sends a message to the public that the town is serious about making the necessary investments. The downtown right now is pretty distressed and I think by freshening things up especially with new sidewalks again it sends that message,” said town manager Sheldon Hudson.
The third project to get approval is the downtown demolition project. Officials tell us they’re set to tear down the former Millsboro Auto Supply and a few other buildings next to it. In hopes of building a new town hall. Town officials add that if the whole process goes smoothly, they’ll move into the new building and the police department will take over the current town center. This will allow officers to respond to calls more quickly without getting stuck in traffic.
“It was brought to us from a council member that suggested this idea of maybe making this building as a police station and at this point we feel confident that we can be able to accommodate that. We’ve been working with our architect, to be able to establish that,” said Millsboro Police Chief Brian Calloway.
Hudson tells 47 ABC that construction for these three projects is expected to get underway by late spring.
