Maryland Eastern Shore baseball takes shootout over Norfolk State

SALISBURY, Md.- Putting up a combined 32 runs, Maryland Eastern Shore baseball escaped visiting Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon, 18-14.

Putting up a nine runs through the 2nd and 3rd innings, coach Brian Holloman’s squad found themselves up 12-3 early. Norfolk State responded with their own nine run outburst across the 5th and 6th innings.

The Spartans would draw it to as narrow as one, but The Shore would outscore NSU 4-2 the rest of the way to hang on.

James M. Bennett graduate Devynn Hancock paced the Hawks, going for a near-cycle (single, double, triple), knocking in three runs and scoring two. Marcus Brown added three RBIs, and five Shore batters hit for at least a double.

The Shore’s Johnny Franco (1-0) gets his first win of the year on the mound, while Norfolk’s Ridge Walker (2-4) picked up the loss.
