Local art group spearheads revitalization efforts in downtown Crisfield

CRISFIELD, Md. – ‘We want to celebrate the history and the heritage of this town.” That’s why Crisfield Art Syndicate is taking upon themselves to spearhead revitalization efforts into an area that desperately needs it.

“We want people walking around, we want the storefronts to be filled in so we took on this humongous challenge of this building which is 2400 ft.² which is a lot of building if you have ever walk around in it,” explains Shawna Kearsley, of Crisfield Art Syndicate.

The non-profit organization is hoping to turn this fixer upper into a center for the arts, a place for the community to come together.

“So the center for the arts we’re looking to bring in performance art, music, kids space you know we think that is a really critical bringing in activities for our youth in our community.”

It’s a project that locals we spoke to Friday think is desperately needed.

Lanee Reese says, “That sounds great for the community it does it really does.”

“The kids here really need something to do so I think it’ll keep them busy and keep them out of trouble learn a lot of things,” Pam Ritter.

So while Crisfield Art Syndicate works to turn this dream into a reality, they’re hoping their investment inspires others to do the same.

“For entrepreneurs who are looking to start a business we want to work with you to kind of get you going on W. Main St.”

Right now the organization is participating in a funding challenge to raise $50,000 to help make much needed fixes to the building.
