Laurel man arrested for DUI, drug possession

FRUITLAND, Md. – A Fruitland man was arrested early Sunday morning after he reportedly drove his vehicle into a ditch.

Just before 1:30 a.m., a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Brown Road and Crown Road in Fruitland for a report of a vehicle in a ditch. When the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as 43-year-old Gary Anderson, a strong odor of alcohol was detected.

The deputy conducted field sobriety tests, which determined that Anderson was under the influence of alcohol. It was also discovered that Anderson had a baggie of what was identified as crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

Anderson was arrested on possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence of alcohol charges. He was later released on personal recognizance.
