Fair helps parents prepare young children for school years
SALISBURY, Md. – Getting children ready for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten can be a challenge for parents.
That’s why Wicomico County Public Schools brought back their School Readiness Fair Saturday at Prince Street Elementary School.
Some of the things provided at the fair included childcare providers, healthcare providers, parent workshops, challenging behavior parent workshops, and free books.
This event was brought back after years of clamoring from the public. The event highlights the importance of preparing children for school in their early years, as birth to five is the most crucial time for brain development.
“Families need to know how to support the learning needs of their students, and that learning starts very early,” said Title I supervisor Sandra Drummond.
“Birth to five is the most critical time that the brain is developing. We have huge family engagement, and it’s the optimal time to get them prepared and ready for kindergarten,” said special education supervisor Patti Adkins.
Wicomico Schools is preparing for another pre-kindergarten and kindergarten fair that’s coming up from April 15 to April 18. This is the first time the school system will be processing applications on the spot.
