Easton Police investigate online school shooting threat
EASTON, Md. – The Easton Police Department says they have completed an investigation into a reported school shooting threat that was made online.
On Sunday, the department was notified of a school shooting threat that was posted on a website, saying it was going to occur at Saints Peter and Paul High School on Monday. The posting allegedly referenced Parkland, Florida shooter Nick Cruz, and using an AR-15.
Extensive investigation led investigators to identify the suspect as an 18-year-old male living in a Midwest state. Law enforcement in the suspect’s state responded to his residence and conducted a search, finding that the suspect had no access to weapons. Officials say the suspect admitted to posting the threat and told officers that it was a joke. The suspect was reportedly apologetic and police were able to clear the residence without incident.
On Monday, officers from the Easton Police Department were assisted by Maryland State Police and Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office explosives detection K-9’s to scan Saints Peter and Paul High School for firearms and explosives. The school was cleared and no firearms or explosives were found.
