Eastern Shore teachers gearing up for Annapolis march
SALISBURY, Md. – Over 5,000 educators are set to march on Annapolis Monday to push for more money for public schools.
Those with Maryland State Education Association say more funding is needed because public schools are underfunded by almost $3 billion every year.
We’re told part of the goal is to urge legislators to implement a new school funding formula to implement the Kirwan Commission’s “Blueprint for Maryland’s Future” on schedule and without delay.
Joan Smith with the Wicomico County Education Association said, “There are so many priorities that we are really trying to fight for this particular session and it can mean the difference between having less of a turnover of highly qualified teachers.”
If the turnout is as high as expected this would be the largest rally in Annapolis in nearly a decade.
