Dover crash claims the life of one

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that has claimed the life of a Dover man.

Police say the accident happened at around 9:15 p.m. on March 4th, on S. DuPont Highway in Dover. A Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound within a dedicated left turn lane when the driver reportedly failed to remain stopped at the flashing red arrow light, entering the southbound lanes of travel and directly into the path of a Volkswagen Jetta, causing a collision.

The driver of the Wrangler, a 16-year-old male, was reportedly properly restrained and was not injured in the accident.

The driver of the Jetta, identified as 72-year-old Alan Gottfried was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in serious condition, where he died as a result of his injuries on March 7th.

This accident remains under investigation.
