Caroline County hosting its first 2020 budget hearing

CAROLINE COUNTY, Md. – Caroline County is gearing up for their first budget hearing and they need your help to see what’s important for this upcoming year.

They’re encouraging residents and organizations to speak out about concerns. They will provide basic information on county finances and give a copy of the capital budget, revenue, and expenses and from there, commissioners will allow community members to give their testimonies.

Commission President, Larry Porter, says, “We’re responsible for paying the money that taxpayers provide for us and we certainly always listen. We aren’t there to debate or argue. It’s an opportunity for them an opportunity for people who don’t get to come to regular meetings to come and express their position.”

The first budget hearing will take place at the Preston Volunteer Fire Company on March 12th at 6 PM. There will be another formal hearing before they set the property tax rate. As for a deadline, they need to set the tax rate by July 1st.
