Car accident causes damage to Downtown Salisbury Plaza

SALISBURY, Md. – Police say a drunk driver went the wrong way down the Salisbury Downtown Plaza causing significant damage to the area.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the driver swerving side to side a little bit. Salisbury police say this incident happened around 11:30 PM Saturday night.

According to police reports, the 27-year-old man driving the truck realized he was heading the wrong way and then attempted to turn around. That is when police say the driver hit brick and mortar planters and left tire marks on the plaza.

Police say the man tried to escape after the crash, but he was eventually caught and arrested by police officers. Witnesses say they had never seen anything like this on the plaza.

“Yesterday night I was out here smoking a cigarette, and I’d seen headlights coming up this one way street coming this way up the wrong way, and then I heard a collision,” said Christopher Clarkson, a local resident.

“When I heard the collision, I heard tires spinning, and it was a pickup truck that hit this wall,” said Clarkson.

Salisbury police say the man was arrested and released to the Wicomico County Central Booking. Luckily, no one was injured.
