Cambridge parking lot construction begins

CAMBRIDGE, Md. –  Construction work is underway in Cambridge to revitalize an old, blighted parking lot outside of a church on High Street.

The lot, located outside of the Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church, will be turned into an environmentally friendly green parking lot.

The goal is to provide more parking on High Street, but they also want to help the environment and they believe this project will do that because storm water will be filtered by the grass before it runs off into Cambridge’s waterways.

Suzanne Sullivan, the Director At Shore Rivers said, “It will look like this until rain passes and then it will actually be re-grated planted with grass seed and then these porous mats will be laid over so come spring April they should see green grass sprouting up.”

The construction of a green lot was made possible by grants obtained from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development and the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
