Wicomico Middle School back on schedule after evacuation due to a bomb threat
SALISBURY, Md. -Wicomico Middle School is resuming normal operations at 1 p.m. on Thursday, after the school was evacuated around 9 a.m. due to a live bomb threat.
School officials shared the update on their Facebook page just before 1 p.m. The post says, “UPDATE: Wicomico Middle School has been cleared by law enforcement officials to resume normal operations. Students will be transitioning back to Wi Middle at 1 p.m., and will observe regular dismissal time and procedures. We would like to thank our students and staff for their cooperation during this situation. Thank you to those parents and guardians showing patience when picking up their student at Wicomico High School.”
School officials tell 47 ABC the threat was called in around 8:42 a.m. All students and staff were immediately evacuated to the Parkway Church of God across the street from the school and were taken by bus to the Wicomico High School auditorium, where they will remain until the investigation is complete.
Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Salisbury City Police, are responding to the school and will bring in bomb sniffing dogs to investigate.
Officials told parents they could pick up their students at Wicomico High School after 10 a.m. if they wanted. However, they assured the community that all students were be safe and supervised at the auditorium.
District officials say there are 780 students who attend Wicomico Middle School.
