Beach patrol looking for recruits ahead of summer season
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Friday was one of the nicest days of the year thus far, a sign we’re getting close to beach season.
Well the Ocean City Beach Patrol is looking for lifeguards. The patrol likes to go into the season with 150 full time employees plus 15-to-20 part-timers.
A majority of lifeguards come back year after year but they are still actively looking for recruits.
The beach patrol has two tests coming, one in Ocean Pines on April 28, another in Ocean City on June 1. The latter is geared toward High School recruits.
Officials say they’re looking for physically able candidates, but also ones who can adapt and have the right personality.
“It really is a job where after one year you’ll leave here knowing that you had an impact on peoples lives in a positive way,” said Ward Kovacs, Lieutenant for the Beach Patrol.
Beach patrol hits the coast the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The city wants to stress that even though the weather is nice, to stay out of the water until guards are back on duty.
