Appliance fraud investigation underway in Ocean View
OCEAN VIEW, Del. – The Delaware State Police Financial Crimes Unit says they are investigating an appliance business that has allegedly not fulfilled customer purchases.
The investigation began in early February 2019, when troopers learned of an incident in which a customer purchased appliances from Coastal Maytag in Ocean View but never received them.
Further investigation led police to learn that numerous customers had either paid in full or partially for appliances that were never delivered, nor had they received any type of refund. At this point, approximately 30 fraudulent complaints have been filled with DSP regarding Coastal Maytag.
Officials say Coastal Maytag remains closed at this time.
Detectives are asking anyone that believes they may have been a victim of this crime to try to report their case by May 1, 2019. Reports can be filed with Detective McCabe at 302-856-5850, Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, or online.
