$300K grant helps Diakonia make much needed improvements

OCEAN CITY, Md. –  A nearly $300,000 grant is giving Diakonia, Inc., a shelter in Ocean City, the funds they need to finally make some much needed improvements.

Like any house Diakonia’s shelter needs some maintenance work done, work they haven’t been able to do because they didn’t have the money.

The grant will help the shelter redo their driveway, their roof, get a new kitchen as well as new bathrooms and lockers for the men’s quarters.

We’re told these are all things that have been on Diakonia’s wish list for a long time.

“It’s also going to be refreshing for the guests I mean they’re in there, they’re with us to rebuild their lives and their own dignity and pleasant surroundings just like we are when we go home to our homes it’s their home,” explains Allison Bernard-Church, Chairman of Diakonia’s Board.

They’re hoping to start renovations as soon as the weather improves. Some contracts have already been approved other projects are still out for bids.
