Wicomico Co. Board of Education member passes away

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Board of Education is reporting that member David Goslee, Sr. has passed away.

78-year-old Goslee was sworn into his seat on the school board in December 2018.

Goslee was elected to represent District 3 back in November, but it didn’t come easy. It originally looked like he would lose by one vote, but after a recall, he ended up winning by a single vote.

“In his short time with the Board, Mr. Goslee showed a true passion for seeing both our students and the school system excel in all areas. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time,” said Board Chairman Don Fitzgerald in a statement.

Moving forward, the school board must fill the void.

The Wicomico County School Board Nominating Commission will select nominees to recommend to the Wicomico County Council to fill any vacancies on the school board.

Within 60 days of a vacancy on the board, the Commission shall:

  • Develop and publicize criteria for choosing nominees to fill the vacancy
  • Make public the names of the candidates that apply for appointment to fill a vacancy
  • Hold at least two public hearings on the applicants for appointment
  • Make public and submit to the County Council the names of the two nominees for any vacancy
  • Within 60 days after the County Council receives the names, the council will hold a public hearing regarding the nominees
  • After the hearing, it the County Council deems at least one of the nominees acceptable, the County Council will then vote on the nominees and fill the vacancy.

The Wicomico County School Board Nominating Commission consists of 14 members, and were appointed to the Commission by County Executive Bob Culver.
