Shots fired in domestic dispute; 1 man arrested

Millville man reportedly attacks mom and dog during altercation with parents.

Millville, DE –  A Delaware man is behind bars and facing several charges after a domestic argument with his parents turned violent and police found the 40-year-old to be in possession of several loaded guns.

According to the report, Delaware State Troopers were called to a home on the unit block of Dororthy Circle for a domestic related incident when they heard a round of gun shots being fired nearby. Police say they were told that Joshua Welsh, of Millville,  was the one who allegedly fired off the shots and that he had recently fled the scene in his car and had several assault rifles and a handgun with him.

An investigation into the original call revealed that Welsh had become disorderly while in an intense fight with his parents and gone into his parents home to take his guns and put them into his Lincoln Towncar. As Welsh was leaving his parents home he allegedly violently kicked the family dog and when confronted by his mother for doing so, he reportedly shoved her to the ground causing minor injuries. Welsh then went back into the home to grab a loaded handgun and was then confronted by his father, who was able to gain possession of that particular loaded handgun. Police say Welsh grabbed a loaded rifle as he went back to the car and fired a round into the ground before fleeing in the Towncar.

As Welsh continued his escape eastbound on Vines Creek Road (SR26) Troopers identified him and attempted to pull him over, however Welsh reportedly pulled to the shoulder as if he was stopping, but then sped away from the troopers and a brief chase began.  Eventually police were able to catch Welsh and take him into custody and found 2 AR-15 style rifles, one being fully loaded, a bolt action rifle, a handgun, rifle magazines, and a large amount of ammunition.

Welsh was taken back to Troop 4 and charged with first degree reckless endanger, disregarding a police officer signal, third degree assault, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and cruelty to animals by cruel mistreatment. The 40-year-old was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,500 secured bond.
