Salisbury woman arrested for abandoning toddler in apartment
SALISBURY, Md. – A motor vehicle collision led to the arrest of a Salisbury woman on child abandonment and other charges Wednesday morning.
Maryland State Police responded to the reported accident shortly before 8:30 AM, at westbound Route 50 and Booth Street. Police say that the at fault driver, identified as 32-year-old Chevonne Plater, was being transported by ambulance to PRMC for treatment of injuries when she asked the ambulance to stop.
She then reportedly got out of the ambulance and fled the scene after law enforcement learned that she was known to leave her three year old child unattended at her home. Troopers quickly responded to Plater’s residence on Fairground Drive, arriving shortly after Plater. It was then discovered that her three year old son was locked in the apartment alone while she was gone.
Plater was subsequently arrested and charged with child neglect, child abandonment, hindering/obstruction, and false statement. The Department of Social Services took custody of the child.
