Salisbury University seeks further annexation with city of Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University is looking to expand it’s services further into the city of Salisbury. On Tuesday, SU officials met with the Salisbury city council to go over a project to build a new housing complex further south of campus. They say the buildings would consist of close to 800 rooms for students who currently live near the school. Officials add that this project has been in the works for some time, and Tuesday was the first step in making their dream become a reality. They add that if they get the OK to build this new housing, it would benefit both the university and the city.

“It’s going to allow us to attract more students which is always a key portion of what we do. We certainly want to maintain our enrolments and obviously those students bring money to Wicomico County and the city of Salisbury so we want to make sure from an economic standpoint we’re benefiting the community,” said the association vice president of facilities management, Eric Berkheimer.

Officials add that the university’s next step is to meet with Salisbury’s planning and zoning committee in hopes of ironing out more of the details.
