Salisbury overcomes 20-point halftime deficit, stuns Frostburg in CAC Playoffs

SALISBURY, Md.- Down 20 points at halftime, and as many as 22 in the game, it looked like Salisbury University’s time in the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs was quickly coming to an end.

In the second half, something clicked.

It quickly became a 16 point game.

Then a 12 point game.

You blinked; and it was a four-point game.

After a Blair Davis three and two Mike Ward free throws, Salisbury had the one point lead with seconds to go.

A Frostburg State free throw would put the game into overtime, but SU put together the comeback, and arguably win, of the year, 78-76, to advance to the second round of the CAC playoffs.

In the second half, the Gulls rode the hot hand of Mike Ward who dropped 18 in the second half and overtime, including two four-point plays. He finished with a team-high 22, followed by Lucas Martin with 14, and Gary Briddell and Blair Davis added 13.

The fourth seed Sea Gulls will move on to face one-seed Christopher Newport in the next step of the conference tournament on Thursday.
