Queen Anne’s Co. Sheriff’s warning of potential phone scam
CENTREVILLE, Md. – The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff has learned of a new potential phone scam.
Earlier this month, a citizen reported the scam to the sheriff’s office, saying he received a voicemail from a person claiming to a law enforcement officer from their office. The person claimed they were attempting to contact the citizen regarding an “urgent matter”, however, when calling the number back, the victim received an automated message stating that they had reach the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the call back number was not affiliated with the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, and advised the citizen that the call was fraudulent. They are also reminding citizens that their office will never ask for payment to expel a warrant.
If you have information regarding this incident, you should contact Acting Detective Corporal Jason Rickard at 410-758-0770 ext. 1262 or email jrickard@qac.org.
