Police: Lewes man threatened girlfriend with her own gun

The handgun was loaded with 2 rounds of ammunition.

Lewes, Del.  – A Delaware man is behind bars after police say he threatened his girlfriend with her own loaded semi-automatic handgun during a domestic dispute Saturday night.

According to the report at 11:20 P.M. Delaware State Troopers were called to a home on the 3200 block of Spruce Court in the neighborhood of Angola by the Bay and found Christopher B. Lare standing inside the front door of the home. During the course of the investigation police discovered that the 28-year-old and his 32-year-old girlfriend were in an altercation when Lare allegedly physically assaulted her causing minor injuries. Following the attack the Lewes resident grabbed the victim’s loaded Glock 43 semi-automatic handgun and threatened her with the weapon. Police also say that Lare had removed the magazine from the handgun before they arrived on the scene, unloading the rounds during the process.

Lare was taken into custody without incident and taken back to Troop 7 where he was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited prior violent crime or felony, strangulation, and aggravated menacing. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $13,000.00 secured bond.
