Nanticoke Road expected to re-open by Memorial Day

SALISBURY, Md. – Despite heavy amounts of rain the region has seen recently, the Maryland State Highway Administration says they are on track to meet their goal of re-opening the road this spring.

SHA officials tell us they have all environmental permits in place. A lot of excavation has been done, and they have started the process of pouring concrete.

They next step is to build the culvert and put it in place, as well as adding trash racks to avoid debris piling up that contributed to three washouts along the road in the last three years.

“This is a whole-scale fix, this is not just a repair, this is a full-blown drainage project on an accelerated construction,” said Brett Deane, assistant district engineer for construction. “So, like I said, hopefully this never happens again.”

SHA says are on track to reopen the road by Memorial Day.
