DSP investigating attempted robbery, suspect still at large
MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery that took place on Thursday.
Troopers responded to the 28000 block of John J. Williams Highway for a reported attempted robbery. Further investigation revealed at the victim, a 34-year-old male was walking in the area of Harris Teeter’s in Long Neck when he came in contact with an acquaintance, 37-year-old Don D. Zakrociemski, who offered the victim a ride to the M&T Bank so he could cash a check.
Zakrociemski then drove the victim to the bank, where he cashed his check. When they left the bank, Zakrociemski began driving in the opposite direction of where the victim needed to go, pulling off of John J. Williams Highway and parking the vehicle in a private lane. Zakrociemski then demanded money from the victim, and a struggle ensued.
The victim was able to flee the vehicle and took off on foot, but Zakrociemski followed the victim in his vehicle onto private property and even attempted to hit the victim with his vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries from the physical altercation but was not hit by the vehicle.
Police are searching for Zakrociemski, who fled the scene prior to police arrival. He is wanted on second degree attempt to commit robbery, first degree reckless endanger, third degree assault, and criminal mischief charges.
