Delaware to issue March SNAP benefits on March 4th
DELAWARE – The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services announced Tuesday that all DE SNAP households will receive their March benefits on March 4th.
According to the Division of Social Services (DSS), food benefit issuance is typically staggered between the second and 23rd day of each month, however, all recipients will be able to use their March benefits in full early in the month. DSS says this is to try and reduce hardships on families and individuals who rely on the SNAP program.
In addition to several other states, Delaware issued February benefits back on January 17th due to the federal government shutdown. This means that if March benefits were issued on a normal schedule, some people would have gone up to 64 days between receiving SNAP dollars.
“It is imperative to do what we can to make sure individuals and families who receive food benefits are not going hungry because benefits are being issued on different dates. We know the children, seniors, and people with disabilities who make up the majority of SNAP clients depend on these benefits each month,” said Dr. Kara Odom Walker, DHSS Cabinet Secretary.
SNAP clients will be notified of the early issuance through letters, contacts through retail outlets and community partners, social media posts, and other means. Grocery and convenience stores have also been notified of the early issuance date.
