Crash in Smyrna claims the life of one, leaves four others injured
SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a crash that claimed the life of one late Saturday afternoon.
Officials say a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound on State Route 1 near the State Route 6 overpass when it traveled into the grass median for unknown reasons. The Chevy then began spinning counter-clockwise as it crossed the median and into the northbound lanes of SR 1, and was subsequently struck by a 2019 Toyota Tacoma.
The driver of the Chevy, identified as 23-year-old Marlon Jackson of Townsend, DE, was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, where he passed away as a result of his injuries on Thursday.
A right front passenger of the Chevy, identified as Giovanni Downie from Brooklyn, NY, was also taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. Two rear passengers, identified as Marcus Dunn of Jersey City, NJ, and Jordan Hannah of Rockaway Beach, NY, were taken to nearby hospitals and are listed in stable condition.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, identified as 27-year-old Matthew Hoffman of Berwyn, PA, was taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.
