Community reacts after a Md. home is completely destroyed and a family is hospitalized

BISHOPVILLE, Md. – A community is reeling after one of their own lost almost everything in a house fire, Monday morning.

The house on Salt Point Road, once full of life and memories, is now just a pile of rubble and ash.

“When I looked out of my bathroom window, I saw a wall of like 20 foot of flames,” says Mike Kowalski, Bayview Estates resident.

Neighbors are in disbelief, after the Ange family’s home caught fire.

“We were awakened about 3:30 [Monday] morning, by the sounds of sirens and we saw numerous trucks come in. Fire trucks and emergency trucks come in. And we saw the glow, up here, of a fire in the sky,” says Linda Miller, Bayview Estates resident.

While the family of three was able to escape, the mom received 1st and 2nd degree burns.

“We could hear somebody screaming, which turned out to be the wife. She had caught on fire a bit,” says Kowalski.

Unfortunately, the family’s two pets didn’t make it out in time. But this close knit community is making sure this family is supported during this tough time.

“I pray that she is going to come through this and the whole family will be strengthened and comforted by God,” says Miller.

“We’ll get together and see what we can do for them and make sure they have a place to stay and what they’re gonna be doing because that’s a total loss,” says Kowalski.

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating to try and find out the exact cause of the fire. Officials say the house did have a working fire alarm but did not have sprinklers. They add that the strong winds made it difficult to put out the fire and firefighters had to bring in pumpers with water, since the street does not have any fire hydrants.
