City of Fruitland gives back little free library, owner not happy
FRUITLAND, Md. – In Fruitland, the owner of the little free library that was taken off her property last week is speaking out yet again after meeting with city officials. Michelle Milad says at Wednesday’s meeting the city manager and council were apologetic and offered to give Milad a new library, and fill it with books.
Milad tells 47 that she asked to take a couple of days to think about the offer, and then asked for additional requirements. Including a public apology. But, city officials say they could not fulfill her request, and instead dropped off the original library they had taken onto her property. Which has some damage. And now she’s considering taking legal action.
“I hate for it to go there but I find it so disrespectful to the community, to me, to the children that use the library> I mean basically it’s telling the community we don’t care about your property, we don’t care about your rights on your property, we don’t care about the little library, we don’t care about you as a citizen,” said Milad.
Milad adds that at the meeting the city manager still could not say why he took the library in the first place. But since returning it, they have offered to have someone paint the box to restore it to it’s original condition.
