Cape Henlopen School District unveils plans for Milton Elementary
MILTON, Del. – The $30 million overhaul of Milton Elementary could start this fall, but that doesn’t mean that the 1931 character will disappear.
The iconic building will stay, but an additional 43,000 square feet will be added.
They will put that addition at the rear of the property and it will include wider hallways, natural lighting, and modern space for their curriculum.
The older section will get new windows and better air conditioning but also some much needed safety upgrades.
Their director for capital planning, Brian Bassett says, “The safety inside the building, you know being able to wire our surveillance cameras, our secure lobby with the double entry vestibule, all those security enhancements.”
We’re told this project was necessary to keep up with the growing number of students and this building should be properly equipped for the next 15 years.
School leaders say they are in the schematic design phase but should be ready to begin the bidding process this summer.
If everything runs smoothly, the project could open up fall 2021.
