Bishopville home destroyed in early morning fire

BISHOPVILLE, Md. – Three people are recovering after an early morning fire destroyed their home.

We’re told that firefighters from Bishopville, Berlin, Showell, Ocean Pines, and Ocean City, along with several volunteer fire departments from Sussex County responded to the fire.

All three occupants were transported to PRMC for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. One resident suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns and was later transferred to Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore. The extent of the other injuries remains unknown.

Unfortunately, the family’s dog and rabbit did not make it.

The house has been deemed a total loss. Officials from the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine what caused the fire, and are asking anyone with information to contact Deputy Fire Marshal Chris Vieira at 410-632-5666 ext. 5 or cvieira@co.worcester.md.us.
