14-year-old from Mardela Springs creates SU nursing scholarship

SALISBURY, Md. –  Salisbury University is offering a new scholarship for nurses, but the scholarship was created by a 14-year-old from Mardela.

Zoey DiPasqua, who’s parents work at PRMC created it specifically for nurses. Zoey says that her mentor and a veteran critical care nurse at PRMC, Betty Turner, was her inspiration. Turner passed away two years ago and Zoey felt as if she never had a proper funeral.

From there, she decided to launch the Betty Turner Memorial Nursing Scholarship at SU.

Zoey tells us, “She wanted an obituary in the paper but she didn’t get one and I thought this would be a great way to honor her and have her name live on. I think our community needs to be built and everyone get equal experience and get to do what they want.”

The scholarship is fully funded and will be awarded every year in perpetuity. Zoey raised over 10,000 over two years, but says she isn’t done yet. Zoey says she plans to be a cardiothoracic surgeon and a career naval officer.
