Two arrested on child abuse charges in Talbot Co.

QUEEN ANNE, Md. – An investigation into suspected child abuse that began earlier this month resulted in two arrests on Monday.

According to the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Mallory Kevin Winstead Jr., and 31-year-old Jessica Jayne Kinsey were both arrested on Monday on numerous criminal charges.

The investigation reportedly began on December 31st, when Kinsey’s 5-month-old son was flown to Johns Hopkins Children Center for serious injuries to the head. Subsequent tests conducted at the hospital showed that the child had multiple injuries indicative of abuse, and further investigation revealed that the child was injured sometime between December 29th and 30th, at the couple’s home in the unit block of Flowers Road in Queen Anne.

Police say the child was in the care of Kinsey’s boyfriend, 29-year-old Mallory Kevin Winstead Jr., at the time the injuries occurred. Kinsey was reportedly uncooperative with officials from the beginning of the investigation, and kept up a fabricated account of what had happened to her son.

Winstead Jr. was charged with first and second degree child abuse, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, neglect of a minor, and obstructing and hindering. Kinsey was charged with neglect of a minor, accessory after the fact, and obstructing and hindering.

Both were taken to the Talbot County Detention Center for an initial appearance.
