Sussex Co. taxi company offering free rides to homeless during cold snap

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – With this cold snap, those who are homeless in Sussex County are getting a helping hand, as they move to different shelters to find warmth.

Beach Ride Taxi is offering free taxi rides for the homeless community. On Thursday, they were driving guests from one shelter to the next, so they don’t have to walk in this freezing weather.

We’re told the idea came from the owner and one of his drivers, as a woman and her three children were kicked out of a hotel room and they decided to give her a ride without the meter running.

Walter Baranovic, a taxi driver with the company says, “We’re going to continue to do that on a volunteer basis to fill in some time between what we got to do.”

They said until it gets warm, they plan to offer free rides for those who are homeless.

The company serves the Lewes, Rehoboth area but they were in Georgetown, so if you happen to know anyone that needs a ride, you can call them at 302-645-6800.
