Sunburst Pharm dispensary brings economic boost to Dorchester County
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Sunburst Pharm dispensary has officially opened its doors and it’s a first for Dorchester County.
“As small as this shop may be we think in the long run it’s going to have a major impact,” explains Darryl Hill, CEO of Sunburst Pharm.
It’s a business both the city and county have welcomed with open arms, one that they believe will have a major impact on the community as a whole.
“We picked Cambridge on purpose in Dorchester County. We think that cannabis and marijuana have been a bane to certain communities over the years and now it can be a boom in terms of economic stimulation,” adds Hill.
Despite two growers setting up shop in Cambridge already, local officials say adding a dispensary to the list will only bring more business to town.
“By having the dispensary here, it’s also from a geographic region where there’s going to be quite a few people that will need to come to that dispensary. They come in and they get their scripts filled and they’ll also likely grab food, shop and do things in the area,” says Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce CEO Bill Christopher.
And even though medical cannabis sales have been met with mixed reviews within the community, business advocates say there’s no denying the potential this industry could bring.
“If I told somebody in the next handful of years there were going to be tens of millions of investment in the city of Cambridge around any industry, they would get very excited. And in this case it’s medical marijuana and you know we shouldn’t get any less excited,” explains Brandon Hesson, Asst. Director for the city’s economic development.
And while the main purpose of Sunburst Pharm is to bring medicinal benefits to the local community, the financial benefits that come from a store like Sunburst are what many non-patients in the area are most excited about.
Hesson adds, “We’ve always seen the promise of medical cannabis its contributions are documented and the excalibur of companies we were able to land here really make a difference.”
We’re told Sunburst Pharm is also planning to host forums throughout the county to help educate locals about medical cannabis.
It’s open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the dispensary is closed on Tuesdays.
