Snow Hill outlasts Pocomoke in overtime thriller

Johnson, Blake too much for Finney-led Warriors

POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- It would take an extra four minutes of basketball, but Snow Hill was able to outlast their county rival Pocomoke, 93-88 on Thursday night.

Pocomoke, who had five players foul out, couldn’t outlast the Eagles with four players on the court.

The Warriors had a 13 point lead at halftime, but the third quarter belonged to Snow Hill. A 14-4 run at the end of the quarter gave Shawn Johnson’s team a 51-50 lead with eight minutes to go.

They would extend that lead to near double-digits, but Pocomoke’s super-sophomore, Charles Finney brought them back into it. Finney, who finished with a game-high 36 points, hit a floater, plus a foul to give Pocomoke the lead with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation.

The Eagles would respond quickly as Payton Wallace would hit a jumper to retake the lead.

Pocomoke would have a chance to tie down one, and on their ensuing possession, Finney would get fouled and head to the line where he’d make one-of-two and send things to overtime.

In OT, Curtis Blake would take over. 10 points, 8-9 from the free-throw line in extra time to give the Eagles the win.

For the Eagles, Blake finished with a team-high 28 points, followed by Zyaire Johnson with 15 and Jayce Freeman with 13.

For Pocomoke, who still remains winless on the year, Finney was joined in the double-digit market by Brandon Snowden who netted 12, and Rudy Ballard III with 10.
