Seaford man arrested for allegedly stealing his mother’s purse

LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police arrested a man on Tuesday after they say he stole his mother’s purse.

According to police, the incident took place on January 22nd, when 32-year-old John Short reportedly walked into the Britt’s Dutch Inn in Laurel, and forcefully grabbed a purse belonging to his mother, before fleeing from the restaurant. Police tried to locate Short, but were unsuccessful, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

On Tuesday, Laurel Police were called to the area of Sussex Highway and Camp Road for a report of a suspicious person. On arrival, police identified the suspicious person as Short, who then ran into an open field in an attempt to flee. Short was arrested and charged with first degree robbery, resisting arrest, and harassment.

Short is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond on the robbery charges, and $2,000 unsecured bond on the resisting arrest and harassment charges.
